The benefits described generally are available to regular
full-time employees. Eligibility
for a number of benefits will depend on membership in the Department’s
Water and Power Employees’ Retirement Plan, also known as the
Plan.
Health Plans: LADWP either provides or contributes
to the cost of a variety of health plans for employees and their
dependents, spouses and domestic partners.
These plans include Kaiser (HMO), CIGNA (HMO), PacifiCare
(HMO), Health Plan of Nevada (HMO), Blue Cross CaliforniaCare
(HMO), Blue Shield Indemnity (PPO), Blue Cross Power Care Advocate
(PPO), and Blue Cross Prudent Buyer Plan (PPO).
Availability may be dependent upon geographic location
and bargaining unit.
Dental Plans: LADWP provides two dental plans:
Delta Dental (DPO) and United Concordia Plus (DHMO).
In addition, IBEW Local-18 members are offered a Blue Cross
DPO plan and DHMO plan.
Life Insurance: The Death Benefit program pays
the beneficiary of an active member employee the equivalent of
14 times the employee's monthly salary, return of all Retirement
Plan contributions, including interest, and any unpaid disability
benefits that were due.
Supplemental Benefits: In addition to the Death
Benefit above, a Family Death Benefit allowance is provided for
the employee’s surviving minor children and spouse. The basic
coverage is $416 per month per survivor.
The maximum amount payable per family is $1170 per month.
Supplemental Family Death Benefit Allowance is available based
on an employee contribution of $2.25 per payroll period for a
period of 39 consecutive payroll periods. This supplemental benefit
increases the per child/spouse allowance to $936 per month with
a family maximum of $2236 per month.
Disability Insurance: Based on Department and
employee contributions and length of continuous service, members
of the Plan can qualify for Temporary, Extended Temporary, or
Permanent Total Disability benefits. Coverage may range from 100%
down to 40% of employee's gross salary.
Vacation: Depending upon the number of years
of service, employees may earn from 10
to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
Sick Leave: Employees earn 5 days (40 hours)
per year and may carry forward up to a maximum 80 hours. Excess
hours beyond 80 will be paid for at the employee's hourly rate.
Holidays: LADWP provides 11 paid holidays
per year plus two additional "floating" holidays.
Other Paid Leave: Up to 40 hours per year of Personal Time Off are provided for each
employee to attend to personal business such as doctor’s or dentist’s
appointments. Unused hours are paid to the employee at the
end of the calendar year.
Retirement:
The Department of Water and Power provides an independent retirement
plan to which both the employee and the Department contribute.
The employee's contribution is tax deferred and paid through payroll
deduction. Employees who decide to leave DWP before qualifying
for a retirement allowance can choose to receive their total of
plan contributions plus interest, or can leave the funds in the
Plan and draw an annuity at age 60.
Other Government Service (OGS) Buyback: OGS allows Plan
members to purchase eligible prior governmental service credit
including military service, Federal, State, County, or City service.
Deferred Compensation: This plan
is offered as a supplement to retirement benefits. Deferred compensation
funds and earnings are not subject to state and federal income
taxes until the funds are withdrawn, usually following retirement.
Contributions remain in the Plan until the employee separates
from City service
Flexible Work Schedules: Flexible work schedules
are offered depending upon the needs of the business unit. Schedules include 5/40, 4/40, and 9/80 hours
of work.
Tuition
Reimbursement: With prior approval, one hundred percent tuition reimbursement
is available at the school of your choice (certain restrictions
apply).
Rideshare
Incentives: The Department of Water and Power is committed to
ridesharing and provides incentives to employees through parking
and public transportation subsidies. Under most circumstances,
those who carpool or join a low cost DWP vanpool park for free.
Partially Subsidized Child Care Tuition: DWP subsidizes a portion
of the tuition cost at selected childcare facilities in the downtown
Los Angeles area.
